Anthropocene Epic
In the Anthropocene epoch, it is more important than ever to pause and examine both human and planetary health. The Anthropocene, known as the "age of humans," brings numerous issues, stemming either directly from human activities or indirectly from interactions within and between natural and artificial systems. This epoch has led to unintended ecological consequences such as global warming, species extinction, resource depletion, and global pandemics. Design bears ethical, ecological, and social responsibilities in addressing these challenges.
Therefore, we should focus on increasing the efficiency of our resources. Socially, inhabiting soulless, lifeless spaces negatively shapes our personalities and characteristics. Thus, we must reevaluate the broader impacts of interior spaces and consider how we can transform our buildings and community spaces to help people thrive. This involves designing environments that support and sustain all forms of life.
Furthermore, the current linear model of resource use is wasteful and should be transformed into a fully closed-loop model to prevent unnecessary waste. By doing so, we can create a positive future and advance from the Anthropocene to a new ecological age of humanity.
